LIBRARIES THAT REFUSE TO CARRY "THE VIOLIN DIARY"
|
They say publishing is difficult. However, in my experience, getting a library to carry an
independently published title is just as difficult and time consuming. Going into this, I had the
mentality that libraries strive to acquire as many different titles as they can possibly get their
hands on.
I was under the impression that their need for funding wasn't just for operations costs, but also to
expand their collections. This however, is not the case with many libraries in America. I've found
a lot of libraries aren't interested in the independently published. The NYPL system for example,
has many branches that have 50% of their space empty, yet they don't take book donations.
The Hartford Library has flat out told me that they're too busy to talk to me about carrying the
book. Keep in mind, every library I send communications to, I offer to finance their purchase
order, or donate 1 or 2 copies to their collection. I have no asked a single library to buy one.
So with that, I've decided to create a black list of libraries who have insinuated or flat our
communicated that they will not carry The Violin Diary. If you are a member of a library listed on
this site, please communicate with your Library Director about getting them to carry this title.
Thanks all,
